Jean Piaget (1896- 1980) studied the development of understanding children. By observing and communicating with kids while working on assignments. Piaget created 4 stages of development, by calculating a child’s progression in an organized manner.
Stage #1 (Sensory motor): Are between birth to two years. Upon this stage the individual should be able to recognize his or her self. The child’s intelligence is expressed through their actions.
0-1 month = natural reflexes
1-8 months = motor skills, and grasping
8-12 months = goal oriented actions
Stage#2 ( Pre-Operational): Takes place between the ages of two and seven years. The developmental part is required to be able to use language and show objects by words and images. Symbolic representations: Children use as symbols that stand for names and experiences. Piaget believed that at this stage; children viewed the world from their perspective. Because they had not developed the mindset to empathize or take views from another point of view. During this stage Piaget believed that kids had the tendency to focus on only one aspect of a situation.
Stage#3 (Concrete Operational): During the years seven to eleven the kid must be able to reserve steps mentally in consensus to realize/recognize that the amount of an object does not change due to the length and width of it. This stage is basically marked by the development of conservation.
